EMPOWERING FIRST RESPONDERS AND INCREASING FIREFIGHTER AND PUBLIC SAFETY
Firefighters put their lives on the line every day in order to protect people and property from devastation. What if it were possible to give these brave men and women greater connectivity and more advanced tools for faster response, better performance and increased safety? Verizon has partnered with Kopin to deliver technology that can help do just that.
The Kopin Golden-i Wireless Headset is a lightweight, head-mounted computer that revolutionizes the way users interact with their virtually-enhanced surroundings. Voice and head gesture sensor controls enable hands-free access to a full computing experience and control of up to six devices, systems, or networks at a time.
With live video and infrared capabilities, firefighters can use heat profiles to find survivors or distressed team members faster while staying better connected to their support staff. Tactical commanders can monitor firefighters’ biometrics, such as heart rate and oxygen levels, and responders can view digital building schematics for faster recognition of exits and egress points. Firefighters can see maps and floor plans on the high-resolution display, and use Golden-i’s location-aware features to find their way around dark and/or smoky environments.
Running over the Verizon 4G LTE network, the solution unlocks truly mobile computing and brings exciting new capabilities to public safety, crisis situations, medical emergencies, and a broad range of scenarios that require responder personnel to know more—and act more quickly on that knowledge.
